Senator Lee Maeba, representing Rivers South-South senatorial district has expressed appreciation to President Olusegun Obasanjo (GCON) for confirming the election of Prof. Don. Baridam as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.
Senator Lee Maeba, representing Rivers South-South senatorial district has expressed appreciation to President Olusegun Obasanjo (GCON) for confirming the election of Prof. Don. Baridam as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.
In a statement signed by Senator Maeba in Port Harcourt described the confirmation of Prof. Baridam's as a election recognition of hard work that is in keeping with the federal government to institute accountability and transparency in leadership.
It also thanked the state governor, Dr. Peter Odili for finding the Ogoni-born University Don Worthy for the recommendation to the President.
According to the statement, the representation of different ethnic groups especially the Ogonis in government is to explore their intelligence and ability in governance, as demonstrated by Dr. B.B. Fakae, the Rector of Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori who has made good the confidence reposed in him by the state government and the people at large.
Senator Lee who is also the chairman, senate committee on petroleum, upstream, commended the governing council and the entire University community for the confidence reposed in the new Vice Chancellor and assured that the trust would not be misplaced.
He wished the new Vice Chancellor, God's wisdom and guidance in piloting the affairs of the University.
It would be recalled that the federal government last Tuesday announced through the special assistant to the Minister of Education, Mr. Chimdi Ejiogu, the appointment of Prof. Baridam as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.
Prof. Baridam takes over from Prof. Nimi Briggs whose two-term tenure as Vice Chancellor ended in June this year.
