Army redeploys seven generals


The Nigerian Army Headquarters, Abuja has carried out a major shake-up of its top hierarchy which led to the redeployment of at seven generals.

Those affected by the redeployment are former Director of Military Intelligence, Major -General O.O Azazi, who has been moved to Kaduna, as General Officer Commanding, 1 Division.

While Brigadier-General R.O. Adepegba is now the new Director, DMI, former Chief of Operations Nigerian Army, Major-General A. C. Akoji, is the new Commander, Operation Joint Harmony Task Force (Bakassi).

Major-General P. A. Appah replaces Akoji as the new Chief of Operations.

Other postings included those of former Chief of Logistics, Major-General Robert Adoba, who has been moved to the Defence Headquarters to head the research unit while Major-General Amodu took over from him as the new Chief of Logistics, Nigerian Army.

The newly-promoted Major-General Nuhu Bamali was moved to the National War College, Abuja as Deputy Commandant.

Major-General Adewuyi retained his post as the G.O.C. 82 Division, Enugu.

A source at the headquarters told our correspondent on Wednesday that the exercise was a prelude to "other expected measures."

He said that in line with the directive of The Presidency, the Armed Forces were being "repositioned and reorganised" to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

According to him, the first leg of the planned repositioning and reorganisation was the redeployment of top officers to strategic positions.
