Kogi Varsity Needs N1.5bn for Courses Accreditation

Vice Chancellor of Kogi State University, Anyigba, Prof. Francis Idachaba, weekend said more than N1.5 billion would be required by the institution for the full accreditation of its academic programmes by the regulatory bodies.

Vice Chancellor of Kogi State University, Anyigba, Prof. Francis Idachaba, weekend said more than N1.5 billion would be required by the institution for the full accreditation of its academic programmes by the regulatory bodies.

Idachaba at his maiden press briefing noted that Governor Ibrahim Idris has approved the release of N300 million out of N632 million urgently required to jump-start the preparations for the accreditation of the courses.

The Vice Chancellor, who viewed the action of the governor as a clear demonstration of his commitment to the institution's promised transformation, said the amount required represents less than 50 per cent of the funds that the institution must have if it is to get some courses accredited by National Universities Commission (NUC), and other professional regulatory bodies.

He added that the N300 million represented only 20 per cent of the total funds of N1.5 billion that is required for the full accreditation of all the courses.

Idachaba, who commended the state government efforts for the immediate release of N55 million for equipment and N50 million for books, said the gesture was a welcome development.

For the purpose of full accreditation, the institution has proposed to immediately recruit 64 professors, 113 senior lecturers, 71 lecturers and other senior staff with an estimated addition of N26.381 million needed monthly salaries and allowances for the academic staff.

He however assured the people of the state that he would reposition, re-engineer, restructure and transform the university into the best university in Nigeria, second to none.
