Obasanjo's aide tasks NFA over foreign coach

The Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters and Vice-Chairman of the Nigeria Football League board, Lumumba Adeh, has berated the Nigeria Football Association for insisting on hiring a foreign coach after the disappointment from Philippe Troussier.

The Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters and Vice-Chairman of the Nigeria Football League board, Lumumba Adeh, has berated the Nigeria Football Association for insisting on hiring a foreign coach after the disappointment from Philippe Troussier.

He told our correspondent on Thursday in a telephone interview that the drive to hire a foreign coach for the Eagles should expire with the failed attempt to get Troussier to handle the Eagles.

He advised NFA to wait for the nation's qualification for the World Cup before searching for a coach that will be willing to develop football in Nigeria.

Adeh, who is also the President of JC Raiders of Jos, said the outcome of the World Cup qualifiers would determine the kind of coach that Nigeria will need.

According to him, the NFA should look for a coach that will help to develop a quality playing culture for Nigeria.

'We need a coach that will train the trainers, who will develop our talents and bring up players for our national teams. Nigeria's situation in the bid for the World Cup ticket is precarious. It is wrong to be going for a coach that will just qualify us for the World Cup," he said.

The FA has asked Eguavoen to put together his programmes for the Super Eagles, but said it was still considering getting a foreign coach before the Super Eagles last two World Cup qualifying matches.
