The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is withholding $250,000 from Nigerian club Enyimba in a dispute over television rights that began earlier this year, CAF said.
JOHANNESBURG- The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is withholding $250,000 from Nigerian club Enyimba in a dispute over television rights that began earlier this year, CAF said.
Enyimba have only been paid $700,000 of the money earned for winning last year's African Champions League title because CAF has held back the rest until it examines the financial losses claimed by the French television company SportFive.
In the terms of SportFive's contract for the television rights to soccer events, the home club is responsible for the production of the television pictures of their matches.
Enyimba's chairman Felix Anyansi-Agwu blamed his club's current slump in form on CAF's failure to pay them any prize money.
CAF countered Anyansi-Agwu's claims by detailing payments, including his collection of a $500,000 cheque from Cairo in May. A second sum of $200,000 only arrived on Monday because Enyimba failed to provide reliable bank details.
