LAGOS - AVIATION Minister, Prof Babalola Borishade, has ordered demolition of all illegal structures around the new domestic terminal building of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, currently under construction.
Prof. Borishade gave the directive yesterday while inspecting the extent of job done on the project being handled by Stabilini Visinoni Construction Company Limited.
According to him, all structures, including the Mosque currently being used by foreign exchange dealers around the project site must go down.
He asked the construction company to take over the land housing the illegal structures to facilitate beautification of the new project.
"Whatever has to go down to make this airport the modern airport of the 21st Century must go down. All structures at the old airport must be demolished and the relics evacuated. I don't care what it takes; people will soon hear from us and I have no apologies," he said.
The minister, who noted that the terminal building was being built on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis and without government money, also warned land speculators against encroaching on the airport's land, saying government would not hesitate to deal ruthlessly with any trespasser.
