A seven-year-old boy, who was sent to dispose refuse outside his house, has been swept away by a killer flood.
The remains of the ill-fated boy, Chibuisi Michael Onuegbu with his skull broken and right hand severely damaged, was found the next day in a deep gully.
The victim's father, Egbogu Michael Onuegbu told Daily Sun that the flood that created a deep gully outside his house, came from all over Nkata area and beyond.
He said: "Chibuisi had gone to dispose the refuse and the flood swept the bucket off his head. As he made efforts to recover the bucket, he was swept off his feet and carried away.
"When the only man, who saw what happened from a storey building reported the incident to us, a search party was organised, but all efforts made to find Chibuisi proved abortive."
The search party found the victim's body, several miles away, at the back of the Abia State House of Assembly.
Described as a very hard working intelligent and respectful lad, Chibuisi the first son of his parents, was buried near the canal in line with Igbo custom.
Apostle Chimobi Michael Onuegbu, Chibuisi's uncle described the incident as sad. He said that the whole thing looked unbelievable.
He said that when he was young, his father was controlling the flood, which wreaked havoc from time to time in the area by sweeping away their livestock each time there was a downpour.
He said that since he grew up, he had sunk millions of naira to solve the flood problem once and for all, but as an individual he could not handle it all alone.
He said: "I am calling on the state government to come to our aid because the flood has cut the only road through which vehicles can pass. Many other buildings near the canal are threatened and anything can happen at any time."
