Barely two weeks after The Presidency suspended the second Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Emmanuel Agwariavwodo, a group has pleaded for his reinstatement.
The group, Niger Delta Youth Foundation, said in a statement in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that the recall of the Managing Director was necessary to enable him to complete the projects which he started which were aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the people of the Niger Delta.
The leader of the group, Mr. Emmanuel Thomas, who signed the statement, pointed out that it would be to the disadvantage of the Niger Delta people if the suspension order was not lifted to enable the MD to return to office.
The group noted that the suspension of Agwariavwodo was masterminded by fifth columnists in the NDDC craving for power.
It stated that the suspension would adversely affect the people of the region instead of the suspended officer, whom they said had carried out many people-oriented projects than any other officer in the commission within a few years.
'What we are saying is that fighting cannot bring peace and development and we plead that this crave by fifth columnists in the commission for power should not be allowed to stand," it said.
'We the peace-loving people who care about the future of the youths are humbly pleading for the reinstatement of Emmanuel Agwariavwodo and that greedy elements in the commission be changed for want of progress in the Niger Delta," the group stated.
The youth body asked the government to make public the actual offences committed by the suspended officer to give credibility to the suspension.
'If government removed Omene from office for fraud, what offence did Agwariavwodo commit to warrant his overnight suspension. Is sack the reward for a man who has impacted positively on the lives of the people of the Niger Delta?", the group asked.
The Federal Government recently asked the MD to proceed on compulsory leave for undisclosed reasons and gave indications it was raising a probe panel to investigate the activities of the suspended officer.
