THE Dutse Municipal Council has purchased 100 donkeys at a cost of N1 million for distribution to cripples across the existing 23 wards of the council.
DUTSE - THE Dutse Municipal Council has purchased 100 donkeys at a cost of N1 million for distribution to cripples across the existing 23 wards of the council.
Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Bala Yakubu Yargaba told journalists in an interactive session Tuesday, that four donkeys will be allocated to each ward through their councillors.
Alhaji Bala Yakubu Yargaba stated that already, councillors have been directed to identify and screen the cripples and recommend four for the gesture, pointing out that the current effort by the local government authority is tailored to alleviate suffering among the population.
Yakubu Yargaba revealed that there is a conscious effort to make life meaningful to the cripples as against the present order, maintaining that the situation they found themselves were not of their own making.
The Municipal Council Boss lamented that these vulnerable group had suffered serious neglect in the hands of the society, a situation he described as a misnomer ,adding that the Council's effort is a step designed to correct the imbalance and guarantee them a sense of belonging.
According to Bala Yakubu Yargaba "We have initiated an action to correct the age long neglect suffered by these group of unfortunate members of our society, therefore, we have decided to purchase and distribute 69 donkeys free of charge to them, this I believe is a right step in the right direction.
The Chairman also announced that plan is afoot to make provision for other vulnerable members of the society, through a comprehensive package that will make life more meaningful to them, noting that every segment of the society will be carried along in this direction.
Alhaji Bala Yakubu Yargaba disclosed that Dutse Municipal Council has ordered for the purchase of 50 wheel chairs for distribution freely to some selected disables across the local government area, adding that the gesture is designed to lessen there sufferings.
