A delegation of United States Congressmen led by the Honorable Carolyn C. Kilpatrick, and the Mayor, City of Detroit, Honorable Kwame M. Kilpatrick, will be the to the African World Expo (AWE) holding in Nigeria next month.
For the past ten years African World Expo (AWE) has created inter-continental links between Countries in Africa and the United States. AWE is an annual trade event and follow-up conference that focuses on the African and United States markets. African World Expo is currently organizing the second Trade Mission between 20th and 27th August 2005 in Nigeria and a follow up Conference in Detroit Michigan USA in November 10-13, 2005, in collaboration, with the City of Detroit, U.S.-Africa Chamber of Commerce. It is a gathering of Nigerian and U.S private sector and Government leaders.
These events will recruit businesses and government officials from Nigeria to meet with potential businesses and Government Officials from the United States. There will be opportunities for Private Sessions with the Private Sectors in Abuja, Lagos and Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. These sessions will provide opportunities to work with specific groups, institutions and the private sector to develop the areas of collaboration in Science/Technology, Environment (water/waste management), Manufacturing and Healthcare Commerce, Science/Technology, Energy, Investment and "Sister City relationship" necessary to accomplish economic progress between Nigeria and the U.S. (Detroit, Michigan in particular).
The Trade Mission among other things will contribute towards achieving economic empowerment, developmental growth through foreign and domestic investment and trade and how to access the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). The round-table meetings will consist of several workshops, power luncheons with keynote speakers, match making sessions.
It is pertinent to reiterate that the success of these events will herald a new era in foreign collaboration and strengthens ties between the private sectors in Nigeria and the US (Detroit in particular).
Some of the supporters of this project include the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Small Business Administration, the State of Michigan, U.S. Commercial Service, Michigan Business Development Council, Henry Ford Health System amongst others.
