IBADAN - OYO State Government yesterday talked tough, vowing to curb what it called the lawlessness of Ibadan politician Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu. Government also declared that it would no longer fold its arm and allow the Ibadan politician make the state ungovernable.

At a joint press conference, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Sarafadeen Alli, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Protocol, Chief Bola Alphonso and Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy and Media, Prince Ade Adekanmbi, said the government had a duty to protect the lives of citizens.

Mr. Alli who read a prepared text said: "we are now calling on the Nigeria Police Force to do everything possible to control and check the menace posed by the Alhaji Adedibu and his thugs to avoid possible uprising of our people.

"Those who make peaceful changes impossible make violent changes inevitable. Our people are not fools, they know what to do and they will do it at the appropriate time.

"We are constrained once again to draw the attention of the public to the antics of Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu with his various outbursts, and threats to the peace of some areas in Ibadan and his conduct which tends to portray him as if he is above the law.

While referring to a newspaper publication of yesterday where Alhaji Adedibu was quoted to have alerted the IG that there was plans to disrupt investigations into the murder of Lati Osogbo, Barr. Alli, ‘‘we will like to call the attention of the members of the public to this contradictory statement which portrays Alhaji Adedibu as wanting to jeopardize police investigation into the matter.

‘‘It is also of interest that the picture of the suspects taken were taken in Adedibu's house when the Police brought the suspects back to Adedibu's house which we believe is a strange police process. While we have confidence in the efforts of the Nigerian Police, we would like to call the attention of the Police Force to this particular claim of Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu. We are of the view that the Police should react to this allegation and tell the public the true position of things since the registration number of the police vehicle has been mentioned by Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu.
