Assassins reject N2m peace offering

An offer of over N2 million could not stop three assassins who stormed the home of an Osun State businessman on a mission to shed his blood. The gunmen shot dead Alhaji Kehinde Titilayo Olajire, after his wife had given them over N2 million, begging that the husband's life should be spared.

An offer of over N2 million could not stop three assassins who stormed the home of an Osun State businessman on a mission to shed his blood.
The gunmen shot dead Alhaji Kehinde Titilayo Olajire, after his wife had given them over N2 million, begging that the husband's life should be spared.

Alhaja Ayobami Olajire told Daily Sun the circumstances surrounding the death of her husband and how the deceased had received a threat letter from a business partner after a disagreement. The business partner is being held by the police as a suspect.

According to Ayobami, the gunmen came into their neighbourhood in Oke-Amoia Street, Ikirun at about 1 a.m on June 20 firing gunshots carelessly.
They later grabbed one of Olajire's neighbour who led them to the man's door.
"Immediately my husband heard our neighbour's voice, he opened the door only to face the assassins' guns," Ayobami said, adding: "I took them to my husband's bedroom, where I handed over N2 million to them as they threatened to kill me.

"I begged them not to kill my husband and I later took them to my own bedroom, where they also got N30,000. Thereafter, they beat me into a state of coma. All along , I was begging that they should spare my husband as I had been very cooperative. But they told me that they were sent from Lagos to kill my husband.

"My stepmother was also robbed before they shot my husband and left him in his own pool of blood outside the house. The DPO at Ikirun police station arrived shortly after, with a patrol team, but the gunmen had left. They spent about one and a half hour in the house."
Ayobami added that her husband had received a threat letter, in March, from one of his clients.
"I was not at home, when they brought the letter," she said. "When I came back from my trip, my husband told me, as well as his grandfather about the letter. He wanted to report to the police, but his friends stopped him. They told him it was a joke that such a thing could never happen."

The traditional ruler of Ikirun, Oba Rauf Olayiwole, said people in his domain had never seen such a gruesome murder. And the DPO, Mr. Andewrson Bankole, said detectives at the State criminal Investigation Department, Ayetoro had taken over the case.
Ayobami spoke of a balance of N300,000 that the deceased's friend was to pay her husband and had refused to. This, according to her, led Olajire to make a report at the Area Command Headquarters in Osogbo.

Thereafter, the police were said to have invited the accused and impounded his car. He pledged that he would pay the money on June 20 and that was the day the assassins snuffed life out of Olajire.
Ayobami said that the man did not turn up at the police station on June 20 as he had promised.
Osun State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Audu, said that five suspects had been held in connection with the murder.
