NDDC donates transformers to Etche LGA


The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated fifteen 300KVA electric transformers to Etche local government area.

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated fifteen 300KVA electric transformers to Etche local government area.

The handing over ceremony, which took place last Tuesday at Okehi was performed by Hon. Oruma, the Rivers State Commissioner in the board of NDDC.

Hon. Oruma expressed the commission's priority area, which hinges on improving the lots of the people. He remarked that Etche and other parts of the state have been denied of their rights in NDDC and assured that their tears will be wiped off, adding that the donation of the fifteen transformers would certainly make historical remarks in the area.

Hon. Oruma disclosed that NDDC is working out a master plan to create positive impact in different parts of Niger Delta including Etche in order to put smiles on the faces of the people.

He promised that the work on the health centres and electrification projects, which are currently going on would be completed in the area.

He commended the chairman of the local government area, Hon. Ehpraim Nwuzi for the Egwi-Okehi electrification project and advised the people of the area to protect the facilities provided.

Earlier in his address, the chairman of Etche local government area, Hon. Nwuzi had commended the state Governor, Dr. Peter Odili for championing a course that led to the establishment of NDDC headquarters in the state, which has made it to be one of the beneficiaries.

Hon. Nwuzi expressed appreciation to the commission for donating a 125 KVA plant to the council and awarding contract for the construction of Okehi/Eberi and Igbo/Chokocho/Umuechem/Ozuzu roads.

The Etche boss said, the contract for the electrification of communities between Egwi and Okehi also awarded by NDDC, had been completed by the council, and appealed to the commission to liaise with the council for the award of a similar contract to other communities in the area.

Also speaking, His Royal Majesty, the Onye-Isi Etche and Ochie of Etche land, Eze Emmanuel N. B. Opurum (JP), praised the state representative in the NDDC for being the first to visit Etche local government area.

Eze Opurum said, for 36 years as the traditional head of the kingdom, he has never participated in such a delightful function and called on NDDC to complete some of the projects abandoned by OMPADEC such as the Egwi-Afara and Ndashi road projects.
