HOMICIDE detectives from the Police Force Headquarters, Alagbon, Lagos have arrived Ibadan to commence investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assassination of Alhaji Lateef Olaniyan a.k.a Lati Osogbo,a political associate of Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu.
IBADAN - HOMICIDE detectives from the Police Force Headquarters, Alagbon, Lagos have arrived Ibadan to commence investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assassination of Alhaji Lateef Olaniyan a.k.a Lati Osogbo,a political associate of Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu.
The late Lati Osogbo,the second in command to Alhaji Adedibu was assassinated on Saturday night 16th July 2005 by yet to be identified gunmen at Sango railway crossing around 10pm few meters to his home .
The state government and Alhaji Adedibu are locked in a war of words over the murder of the slain politician with the two camps blaming each other for the untimely death of the deceased.
Specifically, Alhaji Adedibu had alleged that the state Police Commissioner Mr Moses Anegbode of complicity in the death of his aide claiming that the police boss has been sweeping under the carpet all the atrocities committed by Ladoja boys in the state in the last two years of his government and therefore called on the acting Inspector General of Police to take over the matter due to the bias attitude of the state police boss.
The state Government at the end of the weekly Executive Council meeting on Wednesday said that though the state still have confidence in the ability of the Police command to get to the root of the matter but due to the sensitive nature of the issue at hand the IGP should take over the investigation in the interest of justice and fair play.
Consequently, detectives from the Forces Headquarters arrived Ibadan over the weekend to take over the full investigation of the murder case already causing ripples within political circles in the state.
Confirming the arrival of the Police Homicide detectives from Lagos,the State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Femi Adedeji said that the state Police command has hand over the matter to detectives from Alagbon close to investigate the killing of Lati Osogbo.
According to him, homicide detectives from forces Headquarters are already in Ibadan to take over the investigation of the matter, they are now handling the case .The case has been take over from Oyo police command .
ASP Adedeji while assuring that the police would get to the root of the matter said that no arrest has been made so far.
However, as the detectives arrived Ibadan for the probe into the murder of Lati Osogbo, aides of Governor Ladoja are now living in fears of possible reprisal attack from the Molete axis of the state capital with some of them said to have moved out of their official residence.
