Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government area of Kogi State, Hon. David Audu Adegbe, was weekend arrested over his alleged involvement in the recent theft of N2.6 million in the council.

The chairman, who was on his way to see Governor Ibrahim Idris was intercepted by the security agent, and subsequently taken to the state police command headquaters in Lokoja., where he was detained for over one hour.

It was the quick intervension of political heavyweight and Chairman Lokoja Local Government area, Chief Gabriel Agoyi, that saved the embattled chairman from sleeping behind the bar till next day.

Adegbe had been petitioned by Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for allegedly misappropriating N100 million, belonging to the local council. He had equally been indicted by Barrister Issac Ekpa and his Secretary, Mr. Charles Akowe, for spending the council funds without due process.
Adegbe was also summoned last month by the state Deputy Governor, Philips Salawu, where he warned him of his reckless handling of the local government funds.

However, his recent arrest was as a result of his council's cashier who suspected and mentioned that the chairman was the brain-behind the recent breaking into his office where cash and valuable documents were carted away.
Meanwhile, EFCC may effect the arrest of the chairman following various petitions forwarded to the office on his activities.
