Anambra to start road reconstruction in September


ANAMBRA State Government says it will embark on its third phase of road construction and rehabilitation programme in September.

AWKA - ANAMBRA State Government says it will embark on its third phase of road construction and rehabilitation programme in September.

The State Works Commissioner, Mr. Emeka Ejikeme who announced this during the opening of the bids for roads tendered, however admitted that some of the roads rehabilitated in Awka and Onitsha have since failed. He said that the contractors would go back to work on the roads.

No fewer than 42 firms bidded for the eight roads selected for reconstruction and rehabilitation in the third phase of the road development programme of the Anambra State Government.

The eight roads included the Uga junction- Atani-Ogwuikpele-to rivers state borders, Awka-etiti-Nnobi -Igbo Ukwu road and the Uga-Imo State border road.The Atani- Ogwuikpele Road with a spur into the Ozubulu was bidded by four firms, Cogibar Nig. Ltd; Ratcon Construction Nig. Ltd; Nigercat; and CCN, bidded N9.088 billion; N6.083 billion; N7.538 billion and N8.088 billion respectively.

Other roads are Nanka-Oko Bye-Pass, Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Obaofemili, NITEL Road, Upper-Iweka, Onitsha-Awada Market, Obosi, Oba-Ojoto-Ichi-Nnewi.

claims of the firms will be subjected to further verification by consultants and engineers in the ministry.

"We have to visit their sites and offices to physically verify the equipment they have; we have to confirm their past experience in handling the jobs they tendered for and above all, we have to see their past work. It is a very long process, but hopely, the contracts should be awarded in the first week of September this year", the Commissioner said.
