NGC, Shell use gas-powered cars

NIGERIANS would soon commence the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), as an automotive fuel as the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), has already converted over thirty of its operational vehicles and over twenty vehicles belonging to Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC - West) to run on both CNG and petrol.

WARRI - NIGERIANS would soon commence the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), as an automotive fuel as the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), has already converted over thirty of its operational vehicles and over twenty vehicles belonging to Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC - West) to run on both CNG and petrol.

Disclosing this breakthrough to newsmen at Jeddo town, near Warri last Friday at the official commissioning of a 300 KVA transformer installed and donated to the Jeddo community, the Managing Director (MD) of NGC, Engr. C.O. Ogiemwonyi stated that "NGC has launched the use of CNG as an automotive fuel through the conversion of over thirty of its operational vehicles and over twenty belonging to SPDC to run on CNG and petrol".

According to him ""some of the NGC management official residences have been connected on a pilot scheme to run their air -- conditioning system and gas cookers on natural gas".

The NGC, a subsidiary of NNPC, is a major catalyst for economic growth through gas transmission and delivery to industries for energy and to power NEPA.

The MD stated further that NGC hold itself out to assist Jeddo in stepping down the voltage of power transmitted by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (formerly NEPA) through the donation of this transformer, noting that "it would go a long way towards the economic empowerment of the people".

The N2.3 million transformer was donated to Jeddo "because it is a peace loving community''.

The MD therefore called on the community for the proper safe keeping and regular maintenance of the facility so that it can be left as a communal legacy for future generations.
