Why I sacked NDU Governing Council~ Alamieyeseigha

Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, Governor of Bayelsa State has given reasons for his dissolution of the Governing Council of the State owned university, Niger Delta University (NDU) situated in Amassoma.

Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, Governor of Bayelsa State has given reasons for his dissolution of the Governing Council of the State owned university, Niger Delta University (NDU) situated in Amassoma.

"As you know, the erstwhile Governing Council which was inaugurated on January 11, 2002 was dissolved about two weeks ago in a bold move to stabilize the institution in order to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the government and people of the State."As the Chief Executive of the State and visitor to the university, I saw it as my sacred duty to intervene in good time, and restore the dynamism expected of the Governing Council to maintain standards and promote a conducive academic environment", the governor reiterated.
He was speaking during the inauguration of the new council at the Government House, Yenagoa last Friday.

Governor Alamieyeseigha also used the opportunity to thank the former Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor John Cecil Buseri for his pioneering efforts to ensure that the institution is well positioned in the educational map of the nation.

He told the members of the new governing council that they had been specially selected to lead the NDU unto the path of growth and development.
Chief Alamieyeseigha lamented the situation whereby the state is tagged an educationally disadvantaged state.

He revealed that in order to salvage the state from this humiliating categorization, his administration resolved to place greater emphasis on making education its biggest enterprise.

"There is no way we can achieve our noble ideals of self determination and resource control without preparing our youths adequately for future leadership positions through the instrument of formal qualitative education", he asserted.
He added that the establishment of the school is government's initiative to arrest the inability of its people to gain admission.

The new council has Professor Kimse Okoko as the chairman and Pro-Cancellor while Mr. David Suowari will serve as the registrar and secretary to the council.
