Mobile policemen who were on a mission to arrest some suspected murderers in Obelle community in Ekpeye kingdom were restricted a couple of days ago from carrying out their assignment by some soldiers.

Mobile policemen who were on a mission to arrest some suspected murderers in Obelle community in Ekpeye kingdom were restricted a couple of days ago from carrying out their assignment by some soldiers.

The soldiers who were ostensibly guarding the operations of an oil firm that has a marginal oil field in the area blocked the route leading to Obelle and refused to allow the policemen who duly explained their mission entry into the village.

The obstruction of the course of justice occurred shortly after a major dramatis personae in the alleged murder of an Ndele boy who has been held in prison custody was released on bail by a court in Port Harcourt.
Sunday, the police took up the matter with the military authorities at the 2 Mobile Brigade.

Our information is that the army has conducted an independent investigation and found out that the soldiers who interfered with police operations in a democracy were there illegally.

Thus far, at least sixteen soldiers involved in the scam have been arrested and detained by the commandant of the 2 Mobile brigade here in Port Harcourt.
Our sources say the soldiers had drafted themselves from the Elele wing of the command.

It was not clear if the army would move against the company for illegally acquiring the services of soldiers who ought to be in the barracks.
