Opobo/Nkoro communities to be linked to gas turbine grid

Communities in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State are to be linked to the state Gas Turbine grid, the State Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby has said.

Communities in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State are to be linked to the state Gas Turbine grid, the State Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby has said.

The project which is now at an advanced stage is an integral part of the state transmission line from the Omoku Gas Turbine plant, is due to be commissioned soon.

He stated this when members of "The Focus", a socio-political organization in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area and its Rivers State Polytechnic Chapter visited him at his country home at Opobo.

Sir Toby who said the project was in fulfilment of Governor Peter Odili's promised to transform island communities in the state, explained that the grid would make it possible to transmit power from the Omoku Gas turbine Station to the area.

"The government of Dr. Peter Odili means well for the people of Opobo/Nkoro", he said, noting that on completion, the electricity would enhance rapid development of towns and villages in the area.

The deputy governor, expressed satisfaction at the progress of work on the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity Road and urged them to see the gesture of the state government as one borne out of the need to link all parts of the state.

Sir Toby challenged members of the organization to remain focused and shun anti-social behaviours that would distract them from doing meaningful things in society.

"You must have focus on a set target, know your focus, desist from cultism and take your studies seriously", Sir Toby advised, noting that "any generation without vibrant youths heads to nowhere".

Reminding them as future leaders of Nigeria who deserve to turn anew leaf, the deputy governor enjoined them to take advantage of the numerous youth prograrnmes of the Odili administration as they were targeted at empowering them to become focused in life.

Responding, the Spokesman of the Rivers State Polytechnic Chapter of "The Focus", Mr. Tammy Ubani appealed for government's assistance to enable the organization host its planned programme, tagged "Opobo Week" .
