National Vice President, Nigeria Heart Foundation, Dr. Kolapo Akinroye, yesterday said the only way to prevent upsurge of the heart-related diseases was for the people to reduce intakes of more salts in their food.

Akinroye, who was recently dropped as a ministerial nominee by the Presidency, said this at the first international cardiovascular diseases prevention course in Nigeria organised by Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, College of Health Sciences, Osogbo and University of Lauasanne Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine, Switzerland held at Miccom Golf Hotels in Ada,Osun State.

According to him, the development has resulted into untimely death of many innocent people in the society.

He said apart from this, people should stop taking sugery drinks and the amount of colestrol in their food because many have lost their lives through the development.

Akinroye said Nigeria Heart Foundation in collaboration with the LAUTECH College of Medicine and University of Lauasanne agreed to organise this workshop to enlighten the populace on the need to take preventive measures before the incident happen to them.

He said about 20 medical personnel will be trained in the workshop, which in turn will train and enlighten the people on the need to refrain from anything that may affect their heart.

Akinroye, who was the facilitator of the workshop, said preventive measures can check the increase, adding that the heart disease is chronic and all efforts must be made to prevent it.

Earlier, the acting LAUTECH, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Teslim Raji, said the workshop was meant to equip participants drawn from every part of the country to detect and prevent the spread of cardiovascular diseases
