Obasanjo Intercedes for Nigeria with Prayers

It was a prayer galore yesterday at the Owu Baptist Church, Totoro, Abeokuta, Ogun State as President Olusegun Obasanjo worshipped with his family and prayed fervently for the divine intervention in the nation during the New Year.

Obasanjo blamed Nigerians for not always appreciating good things in whatever their leaders were doing, explaining that he knew that better things would come the ways of Nigerians in the New Year.

He prayed that God should touch the hearts of leaders in this country to the extent that whatever steps or things they do should be directed from the Almighty God in heaven.
"We (rulers) are holding in trust your power in the world. May we apply our minds to do what is noble, may we apply our minds to do what is right so that we can enjoy everlasting lives," Obasanjo prayed.

According the President, who appeared philosophical throughout the 15 minutes he spoke, said the good tidings he had for Nigerians in the New Year, was that new things would surely happen in the country from now henceforth.
Obasanjo, who confessed that his wife, Stella, had warned him not to prolong his speech, prayed fervently that God should touch the hearts of the nation's rulers in this New Year so that good things would continue to be "our portions."

Present in the church with president for the special service were his wife, Stella, Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, his wife, Yeye Olufunke, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Chief Gbenga Asenuga, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi among other dignitaries.

The President said this year would surely be that of happiness, joy, celebration and years of prosperity for family members, community and the nation.

He expressed happiness on his church's choice of this year's theme "A year of new things," saying "may God do new things in the lives of our family, our church, our families, our community and the nation in year 2005."

While demonstrating fullest happiness and optimism of good things to happen to Nigeria in the New Year, Obasanjo sang his usual song "do something new in my life" to the admiration of those present in the church.
