Nigerian duo sign Euro contracts

Two members of the Nigerian U-20 side at the World Youth Championship in Holland (WYC) have signed contracts with European clubs.

Two members of the Nigerian U-20 side at the World Youth Championship in Holland (WYC) have signed contracts with European clubs.

Striker John Owoeri has been given a one-year deal by Feyenoord Rotterdam, while midfielder Isaac Promise joins Turkey's Genēlerbirligi.

"My dream has always been to play in Europe, so I'm happy it has been fulfilled," the 18-year-old Owoeri said.

Promise, who signed a four-year deal with Genēlerbirligi, attracted interest from Monaco, AJ Auxerre, Alaves, PSG and Feyenoord.

But the captain of the Nigerian team that won silver at the WYC said the financial package offered was not the primary reason for moving to the Turkish Liga.

"I found out the club has big plans for me.

"I will play regular football there, which will see me progress to a bigger club in the future," Promise told BBC Sport on Friday.

Dan Fletcher, Promise's agent, said the Genēlerbirligi offer was the best career choice for his client.

"The lure behind the move is first-team football, instead of being on the bench at these other clubs.

"It's a very good deal financially, it's a very good deal football-wise and Isaac is happy to have joined the club," Fletcher said.
