THE Governing Council and management of Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), have been urged to ensure that the best candidate is elected for the post of vice chancellor.
OWERRI - THE Governing Council and management of Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), have been urged to ensure that the best candidate is elected for the post of vice chancellor. Imo State Governor, Chief Achike Udenwa, made the plea when he received in audience the Pro-Chancellor and management of the institution at the Government House, Owerri. "I am aware that FUTO is currently shopping for a replacement of former Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Jude Njoku.
In trying to actualize this dream, you must ensure that only the best candidate is elected for the post of vice chancellor", the Governor pleaded.
Continuing, Chief Udenwa also pleaded with the Governing Council of FUTO to do everything within its power to maintain discipline and academic excellence in the University."Again, I urge members of the Governing Council of FUTO to do everything within its power to maintain discipline and academic excellence in the University. This is the only way FUTO will justify its existence, especially in serving the people of Nigeria", Udenwa said.
He equally used the opportunity to renew his administration's warning on cult activities in all the tertiary institutions in the state, stressing that "anyone caught in the cult web, would be made to face the full weight of the law".
Speaking earlier, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Umaru Abdullahi,disclosed that "the University is in the process of selecting a new vice chancellor and requested forgovernment assistance in realizing the goal.
