Henry Nwosu shocker: Eguavoen, Siasia, Amokachi will fail

FORMER Green Eagles captain, Henry Nwosu has poured cold water on the drafting of silver-winning coach, Samson Siasia and Nassarawa assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi to assist Augustine Eguavoen in the Super Eagles.

“I wonder what those who appointed them to assist Eguavoen want to achieve”, Nwosu, the youngest player in the 1980 Green Eagles winning team wondered. He termed the three coaches as strange bed-fellows, insisting that they would not produce the spark that could get results for the Super Eagles. Nwosu, who is handling a team of MTN Academicals said that Siasia and Amokachi would not respect Eguavoen enough to be their head coach.

“They should have asked Eguavoen to pick his assistants instead of giving him his mates when they were playing. The fact that they played together puts them on the same pedestal and it is difficult for them to take instructions from Eguavoen”, Nwosu reasoned. He said that discipline would be the problem of the coaches in trying to tinker the Super Eagles out of the predicament they find themselves in the World Cup qualifying series.

“Eguavoen will not be free as the head coach to dish out instructions and the other coaches will equally not be comfortable in seeing him giving them instructions. It is human nature. Siasia has written his name in gold. Eguavoen could not do that when he was entrusted with the U-17 team.

Honestly, I see them as strange bed-fellows”, Nwosu said of the appointment that could see them win their two remaining matches against Algeria and Zimbabwe and expect Angola to stumble to guarantee a free passage to the World Cup. Also, former Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, Barrister Nwabufor Obienu advised Siasia not to accept the job in the Super Eagles.
