El-Rufai inaugurates town planning tribunal for FCT


IN Accordance with the Nigerian Urban and Regional planning Act Cap N135 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 that recognizes the establishment of an Urban and Regional Planning Tribunal, the Federal Capital Territory Administration, yesterday inaugurated a four-man Urban and Regional Planning Tribunal

ABUJA - IN Accordance with the Nigerian Urban and Regional planning Act Cap N135 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 that recognizes the establishment of an Urban and Regional Planning Tribunal, the Federal Capital Territory Administration, yesterday inaugurated a four-man Urban and Regional Planning Tribunal.

Justice Isyaku Bello administered the oath of office to members of the Tribunal on behalf of the Chief Judge of FCT, Justice Lawal Gumi.

Speaking at the occasion, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai who disclosed that the Tribunal is saddled with the responsibility of resolving disputes between developers and the Federal Capital Territory Administration, said the act was in recognition of the Federal Capital Territory''s drive at ensuring that the country has a well planned and environmentally friendly capital city that can be compare favourably with other great capital cities in the world.

"You will agree with me that the efforts of the present FCT Administration to restore the lost glory of the Abuja Master plan had been received and viewed with mixed feelings in several quarters: for some, with trepidation and fear; for some with adulation and joy that at least something is being done to provide Nigeria with a planned and environmentally friendly capital city that can compare favourably with other great capital cities in Africa and beyond.

Mallam El-Rufai, who urged members of the Tribunal which has Alhaji Usman Sambo as Chairman, Zainab Ahmed as secretary to ensure that justice and fairness are displayed in the discharge of their duties, said the FCT Administration carefully selected members of the Tribunal to ensure that the demands of justice and fairness become the watchword in their proceedings. Other members of the Tribunal are Christy Nwachukwu and Emmanuel Galadima.

Responding on behalf of members of the Tribunal, the chairman, Alhaji Usman Sambo promised to carry out their responsibilities with fairness and justice, adding that members of the Tribunal will in accordance with the law establishing the Tribunal ensure that the master plan was restored.
