Fawehinmi faults Obasanjo's new cabinet

LAGOS lawyer and human right activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) says new cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo will have no positive effect on his administration as the government is inherently not a good one

ABEOKUTA - LAGOS lawyer and human right activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) says new cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo will have no positive effect on his administration as the government is inherently not a good one.

Moreover, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria who described the administration as not a very serious one said that those who dominate the government were not those with vigour.

"I am not bothered about the personalities in the cabinet. I am concerned about the policies and programmes of government. How they remove the poverty of the people, how they generate employment for the people and how they improve the health sector," he told newsmen in Abeokuta.

"I want to know how much you are going to give to health. I want to know how much you are going to give education and I want to know how much you are going to give infrastructure so that we can have power on a daily basis at every time.

"But of course all these are not very important since Obasanjo does not have good policies and programmes geared towards the interest of the masses; he can bring in the devil to help him. This is not a good government."

He said that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) was not a political party but a stock-exchange organization where some put in money and reap money.

"So they are there for contract, they are there for business. They don't care for the masses of our people. Ciroma was there as Minister of Finance. I am sorry he had an accident and I sympathized with him, but he was in Germany for a whole year as Minister for Finance doing nothing and now his wife is there to replace him.
