Be more vigilant, Toby urges security personnel


Rivers State Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby has called on security and para-military personnel in the country to be more vigilant and alert in their task of securing the nation.

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby has called on security and para-military personnel in the country to be more vigilant and alert in their task of securing the nation.

The deputy governor made the call last week when the Acting Assistant Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in charge of Zone E paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Port Harcourt.

Sir Toby who received the guests on behalf of the State Governor, expressed happiness at the level of determination and professionalism in the security services and urged the personnel to pay a little more attention and be careful with the people living around them so that their job would be made easier.

The Deputy Governor who drew attention to the security situation around the world at the moment noted that the security services need to educate the populace about their role in ensuring a sate and secure environment and except a deliberate effort is made to reach out to the people "the populace would not be able to play their roles effectively".

He noted that the Rivers State Government under Dr. Peter Odili has remained dynamic, liberal and broad-minded to the needs to the Nigerian nation and would do its level best to assist people in the security formations to achieve set targets, since the state was strategic to the political and economic security of the nation.

"Volunteering to serve is the key to the success of the security sector of our nation and that is why we have continually appreciated your organization and others like it", Sir Toby said.

The deputy governor, therefore, called on Nigerians to support the good-spirited Nigerians who have volunteered to serve the nation in the security sector in ensuring that the challenges of security for the nation are effectively tackled.

Earlier in his address, the Acting Assistant Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps. Zone E, Alhaji Ahmed Darki had commended the Rivers State Government in its exceptional assistance to the Corps.
Alhaji Darki said: "From what I have seen about the state, I came to the conclusion that if all other states in the federation were to be like Rivers State, then there is hope that this organization will grow in leaps and bounds".

The Assistant Commandant also said that the zone made up of Abia, Akwa-Ibom Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers States, was willing to accept more volunteers into its fold so as to "collectively combat crimes, detect and handle other social vices in the society".
