Rumueme youth president to assist students on fees


The Youth President of Rumueme Kingdom in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr. King Tony Gboms has promised to pay five percent of school fees to every Ikwerre indigene in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) as long as they remain committed, loyal and united.

Mr. Gboms stated this when the Ikwerre students of the Institution presented to him the award of Innovative Leadership and Youth development held at the Maracana Stadium of the Institution.

The Youth president noted that Ikwerre ethnic nationality has been neglected and marginalized over the years, adding that with unity and courage, they would soon shine in the state.

The king and choice of the people as he is popularly known in the state advised the students to shun cult activities and anything that was capable of causing confusion in the society and take their studies seriously.

Mr. Gboms maintained that as students, they are the leaders of tomorrow and reiterated his determination to assist them to realize their life ambitions.
The youth boss thanked student's body for the honour done him and promised to initiate programmes that would enhance the performance of education in Ikwerre ethnic nationality. He later donated 1,000 exercise books and the sum of N250, 000 to the students.

Earlier in his speech, the National President of the National Union of Ikwerre students, UST, Comrade Nye-Igwugwu Amadi Nnokam had said that the celebration of Ikwerre culture in the University community was an anural event, adding that the celebration of culture was the symbol of their existence and specific identification of ethnic groups and advised all Ikwerres to promote their culture in order to save it from total collapse.

The president- general noted that the award given to the recipient was based on merit and maintained that service to humanity was the best work of life.
Mr. Ejiowhor Israel, a Mass Communication student who spoke to the Telegraph after the event commended the Rumueme youth president for his magnanimity towards the students and urged him not to relent in helping the students to achieve their aims.
