An armed robbery suspect has told how he was lured into a gang that had always been successful until they had a new man running the show. Agility Omo, 24, who was singing like a parrot at the police headquarters parade ground, Lagos, cursed the day he met his master, Norode.
Omo said that he met Norode at a beer parlour in Tolu area of Apapa adding that on the fateful day, he admired Norode's mode of dressing and his manner of talking.
His words: 'I was just taking small bottle of Guinness stout when I saw him perfectly dressed and he was giving money to some of his guys. When he saw how I was admiring him, he signalled to me to come to their table.
' That was the day I dug my grave. That was how I turned a black sheep in my Christian family. That was the day, I chose the devil and rejected Jesus Christ."
He said that Norode gave him seven bottles of small stout, bought him meat and gave him money for transportation, adding that he then gave him a date to meet him at the beer parlour.
'Oh, the devil murdered my sleep as I could not sleep. I was waiting for three days to elapse so that I could meet the men who ruined my life. The nights became longer and days refused to turn to night. I did not know that I was digging my grave," Omo said.
When the day came, he met Norode with other bad guys who welcomed him with drinks. After the fourth meeting, Norode told Omo that he liked him and that he wanted him to join in some kind of hustling at the sea port.
Omo said that he started hustling with Norode till one day when he told Omo that he was travelling to Delta State where he was going to negotiate for a better business, adding, 'his coming back became the catalyst to my robbing initiation."
He revealed that when the kingpin came back from Delta State, he showed him four guns and some live catridges and told him that they should be wise to make good use of the arms and ammunition.
Omo was later introduced to four other dangerous guys who he followed to rob at Sango, Ikorodu, and Lagos Island. They robbed in the buses and along the roads but one day, Norode called and told them that they were now big guys and that henceforth they would be robbing big shops and houses.
Omo said that one day he sighted a shopping complex on Awolowo Way, Ikoyi and informed Norode of the discovery, adding that the gang leader was happy as he quickly went on survellance of the place.
He said 'our problem started when oga brought a strange person to join us in the robbery. I warned oga that the new person may bring ill luck to us because all our operations had been successful. But oga said that he didn't trust me anymore. He insisted that a new blood who will be an eye for him must go with us. I insisted that he must explain why and he said that I had been hiding something after robbery operations."
Omo said further that during the operation, the new man took over the command of the operation, adding that he made many unforgiveable mistakes that led to their arrest.
'In the first instance, he said that we should charter three commercial motorcycles, that we must not brief them about our operation. So, we obeyed, but don't you see his foolishness. We just chartered Okada people who were not aware of our operation. They were just outside. You see, they were not in the know of what we were doing. When the public raised an alarm, they ran away. But if we had gone with our dedicated guys, they would have stayed for us and see that they evacuate us from danger," Omo said
After robbing their victims, the gang locked them up in a room. As members of the gang were running away, a police patrol team appeared and opened fire on them. He said that if Norode had allowed him to lead the operation it would have been a successful trip.
