AWKA - THE Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has expelled 115 students for alleged membership of cult groups.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ilochi Okafor in an interview in Awka said the university had also established an anti-secret cult unit to check the activities of cult groups and violent crimes.
He said the unit was doing a great job in fishing out cult members and checking crime on the campus.
"The tradition of the university has been to constitute students who have military background either in the armed forces or in the police, immigration or Customs, into an anti-secret cult squad.
"It is the dedication of these young men that tell a lot of stories toward the successful containment of cultism in our university," he said.
He said critics of his administration and petitioners resented the anti-cult unit because they wanted it disbanded to enable them to have a field day to kill and maim innocent students.
Okafor reiterated his determination to give the institution a purposeful and dynamic leadership in honour of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, who the university was named after.
