Robbers steal N10 million from Chartered Bank in Uyo

On Wednesday, robbers in Uyo headed for a the Chartered Bank located at Nwaiba.
So far the Telegraph has not been able to establish how many robbers carried out the operation.

But our sources say both bank officials and customers were stunned when the robbers made their way into the bank, carrying dangerous weapons.
Incidentally, the operation from what we have heard was led by a lady.
Eyewitnesses say the girl may not have been more than 21 years old.
In the banking hall, there was a large hush as the robbers pranced and threatened to eliminate any one who would not cooperate.

Although the bank is yet to say how much it lost, sources in Uyo told this publication on phone that there were strong rumours that the thieves may have gained access to the bank's strong room.

In Uyo, there are ongoing speculations over how much may have been hijacked.
One source, a female who spoke with Telegraph's Editor-in-Chief claimed that no less than N10 million may have been removed from the strong room by the dare-devil robbers.

Elsewhere in the South-South, bank robbers are becoming increasingly rampant.
In Port Harcourt considered the hob of the South-South and the oil industry, several banks have come under attack, with officials afraid to keep so much money in their vaults.

In the meantime, our correspondent, Christopher Tom who also called said attempts to get the officials of the bank to comment on the robbery have so far proved abortive.

He however reports that investigations have commenced, with police in hot pursuit of the robbers who chose to strike at about 11.00a.m Nigerian time
In Uyo, there is talk that the band of robbers may have been apprehended as they tried to rob another bank, but there has been no confirmation..
