ABEOKUTA - PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday accused Nigerians of not recognising the new things God has been doing in their lives and urged them to be more appreciative.
Speaking at the Owu Baptist Church in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, at the first Sunday of the year service, President Obasanjo, however, said that the new year would be a year of celebrations and happiness.
Dressed in a white brocade, President Obasanjo told the congregation "the problem is that we do not recognise the new things God is doing in our lives. Maybe we have to develop a grateful mind to thank God for new things He has been doing in our lives.
"I like the theme chosen by Owu Baptist Church this year i.e ‘year of new things'. May God do new things in the lives of our relatives, friends, families and may God do new things in the life of our country in 2005.
Earlier in his sermon, Revd. Ezekiel Esuola said that anybody who placed his or her hope in human beings, no matter how influential, would be wasting his time because only Jesus Christ has the authority to make all things new.
Quoting from the Book of Mathew chapter 28 verse 21 and Revelations 21 verse 5, Revd. Esuola said all authority has been handed over to Jesus Christ.
"No man can make everything new, the President is trying to change things in the country, but he has no power to make all things new. It is beyond the ability of the President or Governor of any state. To those unbelievers, I am talking nonsense. But to believers, I am talking widom", he said.
