Group asks Obasanjo to intervene in mass sack at CBN


YORUBA socio-cultural organisation, Igbimo Agba Yoruba, has appealed to President Olusegun Obasanjo to intervene in the plight of over 1000 former workers of the CBN who were affected by the mass retrenchment between 1996 and 1999.

YORUBA socio-cultural organisation, Igbimo Agba Yoruba, has appealed to President Olusegun Obasanjo to intervene in the plight of over 1000 former workers of the CBN who were affected by the mass retrenchment between 1996 and 1999.

A statement signed by the organisation's Secretary General, Dr. Kunle Olajide, noted that in May 1999, President Olusegun Obasanjo set up a review panel to look into the cases of mass termination of appointments and retrenchment of workers in both the civil service and parastatals in order to review those cases considered to be arbitrary and unjust.

According to the statement: "We considered it noteworthy that many affected workers at both levels of employments whose cases were reviewed and found to be unduly and unjust had since been redressed through the prompt and appropriate intervention of the government and agencies concerned.

"But the former CBN workers have not been similarly lucky like their counterparts.
