THE police in Abuja have arrested a fake deputy superintendent of police (name with-held) who allegedly operated in the Presidential Villa for two years, duping people under the pretence of investigating their cases.
Sources told Sunday Vanguard at the weekend that the arrest of the fake DSP was made possible following a telephone call by a top Presidency official to the Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), Mr. Innocent Ilozuoke.
The police commissioner was said to have called the Presidency official after investigations and told him that they had no such person in the police force from the CIB after which he was arrested. The fake officer had claimed that he was in the police and working with the CIB before he was transferred to the Presidential Villa where he operated for two years.
According to the source, the fake DSP, who confessed that he was a dismissed Customs Officer, on interrogation, said the police identity card found on him which he used to deceive his victims was picked up at a riot scene early in 2003 and that he removed the passport in it and replaced it with his own.
The fake officer was found with case files of numerous persons as well as letter heads of The Presidency. He also confessed that he had been formulating cases and investigating them on behalf of victims.
