A 28 year-old rat-poison hawker has killed his mother and an aunt for allegedly retarding his progress through witchcraft.
NAN reported on Friday that the man, Ayodele Owoyemi of Oke-Ere in Yagba East Local Government of Kogi, claimed that his mother, Tomola, was responsible for his not being able to 'make it."
The man admittedly told the police that some prophets at Isanlu and Omu-aran had repeatedly told him that his mother was responsible for his plight, so he had to kill her.
Owoyemi was said to have clobbered his mother to death with a pestle while his mother's sister, simply called Ibiyemi, who tried to intervene was also killed in the same way on the spot.
Owoyemi, who hitherto had been a rat-poison hawker in the town, felt justified and betrayed no remorse as he voluntarily made himself available for police arrest.
According to police sources, Owoyemi, after his arrest and detention at Odo-Ere police station, was subsequently handed over to the homicide unit of the state'police command in Lokoja.
One of the leaders of the town, Chief Abraham Oyeyemi, described the incident as an abomination, adding that it had paralysed social and economic life in the town.
'Life has changed here; you can see that the market is empty and all our social activities have been suspended because a boy killed two relations at a time," Oyeyemi lamented.
NAN reports that Ayodele is now helping the police in their investigation.
