The double collection of the gratuity according to sources was detected by the new information technology (IT) systems put in place by the DMP to checkmate incidences of fraud that has resulted in the loss of billions of naira by the directorate.

According to a letter sent to the former army chief by the Chairman, Military Pensions Board, Group Capt. Adamu Kachiro, on the discovery of the double payment, Gen. Malu was said to have collected the sum of N8, 437,377:78 as far back as June 2002 as his gratuity and pensions.
