The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has initiated a series of workshops to improve computer skills among Nigerian teachers, a senior Nigerian official said Friday.
Speaking at the beginning of one of the workshops, Kabiru Isyaku, executive secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), said "the program would boost computer knowledge of primary and secondary schools teachers."
Isyaku told the participants that the workshop was aimed at acquainting them with up to date facilities necessary for computer education.
He said the workshop would train participants on the use of computers, particularly in the classrooms.
"The participants would similarly be exposed to the benefits and potentials of the Internet to teaching and learning," the NCCE official said.
According to him, the workshop will train teachers in modern techniques of preparing teaching aids and manuals for primary and junior secondary schools using information and communications technology.
