Nigeria coach Siasia goes unpaid

The coach of Nigeria's silver-medal winning team at the recent World Youth Championship has told BBC Sport that he is yet to be paid for his services. Samson Siasia led the Flying Eagles to their first final in 16 years. Nigeria lost 2-1 to Argentina in the decider.

The coach of Nigeria's silver-medal winning team at the recent World Youth Championship has told BBC Sport that he is yet to be paid for his services.
Samson Siasia led the Flying Eagles to their first final in 16 years. Nigeria lost 2-1 to Argentina in the decider.

But the former Nigerian international has not been paid for eight months and has no idea when the money will come.

"The NFA chairman has promised me that I will be paid soon but I don't know when," Siasia told BBC Sport.

The NFA chairman Ibrahim Galadima told BBC Sport on Friday that Siasia's salary and everything owed to other national team coaches will be paid by the end of next week.

"We have been able to get the money to pay them, so all outstandings will be settled," Galadima said.

In another development, Siasia told BBC Sport that he has been asked by the NFA to join the coaching staff of the senior national team.

"I had a meeting with the NFA yesterday (Thursday) and I have been told I will join the coaching staff of the senior national team," he said.

Siasia said he expects his contract, which expired at the end of the World Youth Championship in Holland, to be renewed when he returns from a "well-deserved rest" in the United States.
