FLYING Eagles heart, John Mikel Obi who is in the middle of a three-way transfer tug-of-war involving Lyn, Manchester United and Chelsea may turn out to be the biggest star ever from Nigeria.
The youngster who dazzled and displayed his natural talent at the just ended World Youth Championship in Holland has been likened to such great players like Maradona and Austin Jay Jay Okocha. Former Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Clemens Westerhof who took Nigerian football to its peak said that he was amazed with the natural talent of the boy. 'When I saw him play, I whistled and shouted alalalaaa! He is good. He is simply fantastic! He is a play maker. He is definitely going to make name for himself and Nigeria in future", Westerhof who signed a five year contract to head the College of Excellence, a football academy in Ilorin, the brainchild of Anthony Kojo Williams said.
Mikel Obi who shot into reckoning more because of the controversy that trails his decision on which club to play for has repeatedly said his heart is for Chelsea and not Manchester United. But Westerhof cautioned that the boy should be careful in order not to destroy his career before it begins. 'He has the right to determine where he plays, but he should be careful", was all that the Dutchman has to offer.
FIFA President, Joseph Sepp Blatter at the presentation of medals held the young Nigerian's hand for a little tete-a-tete before he decorated him with his own medal, an indication that he was aware of the transfer brouhaha. His Norwegian club, Lyn, has already reported the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, to FIFA for not releasing the player back to them after the World Youth Championship. But FA boss, Ibrahim Galadima described the Norwegian club as lacking in truth and advised them to embrace truth.
Obi who is in Nigeria has expressed his joy for the love and affection of Nigerians towards him and pledged to always honour national call at all times.
