Gang from hell in police net

Members of a 10-man gang recently smashed by the police in Lagos have told how they formed their evil alliance while in prison.

Members of a 10-man gang recently smashed by the police in Lagos have told how they formed their evil alliance while in prison.

Three members of the gang were killed when detectives from Team C, Adeniji, Adele Police Station led by one Inspector Joseph, with the assistance of some members of the dreaded Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), stormed the hideout and had a gun battle with the suspects.

Daily Sun gathered that the police and the OPC men trailed the surviving members of the gang through several hideouts across Lagos metropolis from Ajah, through Lawanson and Badagry before they succeeded in picking the six fleeing suspects.

A senior police officer revealed to Daily Sun that the 10-man gang was formed from inside prison.
According to him:"The six arrested robbers have made useful statements. They have confessed that they formed the gang in prison custody. These are experienced robbers."

"Why we should give glory to God that these evil men were nabbed is that they initially belonged to different gangs and met in the prison to form another gang. You see, they will bring different ideas and merged them together to deal ruthlessly with members of the public."
He thanked the OPC members, who gave the police necessary information and assisted in the arrest of the six fleeing suspects.
One of the suspects, who gave his name as Wasiu, confirmed the police story that the gang met in the prison.

His words: "Yes, it is true that we met in prison, but not all of us were jailed for robbery. Some of us were jailed for minor offences, like burglary"
On why he joined the gang, he said: "What other jobs do you expect us to do after being released from prison. Man, go and sit down. You don't know what is going on in the country. Hardship is too much and no hope for a common man."
Asked how he felt about the fate of his dead colleagues, he said: "Man know say he go die one day, so what is the big deal? Na who die be your problem?"
