LAGOS -(Dow Jones)- The Nigerian Senate Wednesday confirmed Edmund Daukoru as his country's oil minister, following his nomination by President Olusegun Obasanjo, according to local media reports Thursday.
Daukoru has been serving as a presidential advisor on petroleum and energy since November 2003.
President Obasanjo nominated Daukoru for the top oil post last week. He was among 12 nominees submitted to the Senate.
Although no portfolio has been assigned to Daukoru, observers believe he will continue to work with the ministry of petroleum resources.
Since 1999 when he was first elected, President Obasanjo has not appointed an oil minister, saying he was the minister responsible for that portfolio.
