Wabara promises early budget passage


Senate President Adolphus Wabara Thursday promised that the 2005 budget would be passed into law before the end of this month just as he enjoined Nigerians to support all elected leaders in building a nation that could be the pride of Africa.

ABUJA - Senate President Adolphus Wabara Thursday promised that the 2005 budget would be passed into law before the end of this month just as he enjoined Nigerians to support all elected leaders in building a nation that could be the pride of Africa.

In his new year''s message the Senate President defended on going reforms of the Federal Government as necessary pain killers designed to correct the mistakes of the past. The statement issued on his behalf by his chief press secretary, Mr. Henry Ugbolue envisaging hope for the country in 2005 said 'Nigerians will walk tall, with bounce in their gaits, dreams in their eyes, smiles on their faces and hope in their being"

The statement quoted the Senate President as observing that the envisaged rejuvenation would not come cheap charging that 'the task of making the nation the pride of Africa is a collective one," urging further that ''patriotism, hard work and the fear of God in the new year,"" would help realize the dreams of success.

Observing the role of the National Assembly in law making, the Senate President promised that the 2005 budget would be passed into law before the end of January. The National Assembly had earlier promised to pass the budget before the end of last year but subsequent alterations of the proposals by the presidency forced a postponement of considerations of the budget to this year.
