Six people were killed and 10 injured when a pedestrian bridge collapsed on their cars in Nigerian southwest city of Ibadan, police and residents said Saturday.

The incident occured on Thursday night when a trailer carrying heavy equipment crashed into a pillar holding the bridge.
It collapsed on the two cars and killing the occupants, a police officer told reporters.
"Six mangled bodies of the occupants of the cars were recovered from the wreckage while 10 passersby were injured," resident Bolaji Liadi said.
She added that the accident caused heavy traffic since many travellers were stranded for several hours. In another development, press reports said at least 50 houses and several vehicles were razed on Friday in Asaba, capital of the Delta state.
The papers said the violence erupted at Ogbe-Osowe area of the town as a result of a dispute over land rights between two factions.
