Three staff of the Inland revenue Department along Moscow Road didn't quite know what hit them last weekend.
They were arrested Friday by operatives of the EFCC, the anti-corruption agencies that have been charged with hunting down persons who may be engaging in acts of economic sabotage.
Most workers in the department were stunned when the detectives from the organization simply walked in and grabbed the three workers.
As things are, the workers are being held for their part in the evasion of tax by Daewoo, a Japanese firm.
Some time ago, men from the FBI had visited the department in pursuit of those who could be connected to the Haliburton bribery scandal.
It is not known if the operatives from the EFCC has taken the three suspects out of town to Abuja.
The story, according to sources within the department, is that millions of naira could have been stolen through sharp practices.
Their arrest, insiders hint, has put many workers on edge as they wonder who would be next, or who is providing the EFCC with information about what is going on.
The Telegraph is keeping pace with the breaking news.
Efforts are being made to obtain the names of those who were picked up by the EFCC.
In the meantime, there are indications that the suspects have made useful statements to their captors.
Would their arrests lead to more arrests as investigators pour through books in search of signs of fraudulent sharp practices.
The EFCC is part of an ongoing resolve to rid the system of corruption. Although statistics are not as reliable, the nation is said to lose millions of naira through the collaboration revenue staff.
