Speaking while presenting certificates of merit/participation to trained community police officers in the Enugu state command, Ehindero said that he was not unaware of the harsh conditions members of the command work under, particularly the low pay packet which is still low.

Packed, noting that it was ridiculous where a police man is paid N50 torch allowance when such amount cannot even buy touch bulb or he receives N125 uniform allowance with a pair of trouser costing over N1,500.
He maintained that it was not possible for him to promote a police constable or sergeant in states police commands hence his decision to allocate certain number of those to be promoted to their respective state police commissioners.
The number one police officer in the nation said that the era of reactive policy has been taken over by proactive policing which entails averting an offence from being committed. He, therefore, directed immediate training of constable in weapon handling to reduce incidence of accidental discharge within the cadre and commended the vision of community policing, stating that the performances of the trainees and Nigerian Police contingent outside the country were indications of the quality personnel in the service.
He stressed that allowances need to be reviewed in line with present day economic reality but warned that the present condition should not be an excuse to engage in corrupt acts of extortion and bribery.
Ehindero reminded the Enugu state police commissioner that the law on wandering has been repealed, saying that the command should adopt another means of patrolling areas known to be robbery dens to reduce the rampant incidence and allegation of arrest of innocent people and disclosed plans to extend community policing to about six states before the end of the year.
