The Nigeria Football Association on Thursday said coach Augustine Eguavoen has not been appointed to coach the Super Eagles, but was asked to take charge of the team while awaiting further directives.
Chairman of NFA's Technical Committee, Suleiman David, told our correspondent in an interview that the NFA was yet to reach a conclusion on his position with the team.
Eguavoen was saddled with the responsibility of heading the team, when NFA decided to remove Christian Chukwu after Eagles' dismal outing in the World Cup qualifiers.
He has demanded that the FA should formalise his appointment as Coach of the Eagles, instead of being kept in suspence in respect of his designation in the team.
Suleiman however, said his call for a formal appointment was not necessary as NFA was still working on the employment of a foreign technical adviser.
'We cannot be talking about entering into a formal contract with him now," he said.
He added that the NFA was working hard to ensure that a competent coach was hired to lead Nigeria to Germany 2006 World Cup.
