NDLEA boss expresses concern over involvement of politicians in drugs

The Imo State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Justice Arinze has expressed concern over the involvement of notable politicians in the importation, cultivation and sale of hard drugs in the country.

The Imo State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Justice Arinze has expressed concern over the involvement of notable politicians in the importation, cultivation and sale of hard drugs in the country.

According to Arinze, it had come to the notice of the command that politicians were involved in the importation of banned substances such as cocaine, heroin and marijuana.

Speaking with journalists in his office at Nekede, Imo State, the Commander regretted that most of the youths arrested for drug offences usually pointed fingers at politicians who aided them.

He announced that his command was poised to tackle the menace of drug in the state and vowed that the long arm of the law would catch up with anybody caught no matter how highly placed. The Commander noted that Imo was very peaceful but that there were still cases of illicit drug trafficking in the State.

He said that his command had continued to make arrest and seizures and that with the opening of new area commands at Okigwe and Orlu, more success would be recorded.

Arinze disclosed that a wealthy man in the state was now cooling his heels in the cell of the agency because of his alleged involvement in hard drugs.

He recalled that the man had earlier been counseled by his command and released but that shortly after, he was back in the business.

The commander further said that 'he told us that anytime he is near the road and wants to cross, an inner voice would tell him to run even when a trailer is coming by and that anytime he was driving the voice would tell him to increase the speed."
