Police Discover Arms Factory, Arrest 16 Robbery Suspcets


The police in Plateau State yesterday announced that they have arrested 16 armed robbery suspects in different parts of the state in addition to uncovering an illegal arms factory in Namu, Quang Pan Local government Area.

The police in Plateau State yesterday announced that they have arrested 16 armed robbery suspects in different parts of the state in addition to uncovering an illegal arms factory in Namu, Quang Pan Local government Area.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Apapa said six locally made pistols, six Dane guns and three locally made single barrel guns were recovered from the suspected gangs and from the factory.

According to him, 10 rounds of 7.62mm, seven .9mm, a round of .303mm and six magazines were particularly recovered from the arms factory in addition to their tools of trade.

Apapa named Osita Ukwueze and Godfrey Geowan as those arrested in the illegal arms factory while another two, Christian Ugwu and Dantala Dahiru on whose premises the factory is located are said to be at large.

The Commissioner who paraded the suspects said that they have already confessed that their products were sold to men of the underworld who deploy them for their nefarious activities.

Apapa disclose that there has been a reduction on the number of robberies in the state as only 16 cases have been recorded while 45 people were arrested. Other successes scored by the command include the recovery of 12 stolen vehicles and the killing of seven armed robbers in shootouts.

He also disclosed that they have recorded 12 homicide cases while 81 persons died from motor accidents within the period.
