The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has arrested some suspects over last month's leakage of some Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), papers.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has arrested some suspects over last month's leakage of some Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), papers.

The leakage led to the cancellation of 10 papers.

Samuel Ajakaiye, WAEC's Head of National Office (HNO), said in a statement on Thursday in Lagos that an investigation panel investigated and arrested the suspects who have since been handed over to the police.

Ajakaiye, however, declined to give the specific number and identity of the suspects in the statement.

He described the leakage of the papers as unfortunate, stressing that the council was determined to ensure that all those involved were apprehended and decisively dealt with to safeguard the integrity of the council.

Ajakaiye, who assumed office on May 17, said that the report of the panel of investigation would be made public as soon as the investigations were concluded.

He urged the police to assist the council in ensuring speedy investigation of the matter.

Sequel to the leakage, WAEC immediately cancelled Mathematics, Geography, Literature in English and Physical Education and were subsequently re-taken between May 28 and June 10.
